We’re just about to the launch the fun and exciting Wilmington/Whiteface Mountain Bike Fest June 20 - 22. A jam packed weekend of all things biking also includes:
- The 12th Annual Whiteface Mt. Uphill Bike Race, beginning at 8 a.m. July 21 at the foot of the Whiteface Mountain Memorial Highway
- The 4th Annual Wilmington/Whiteface 100K - July 22 at the entrance to the Whiteface Mt. Ski Center
The grueling WW 100K is a 100 kilometer race over hill and dale, with top finishers qualifying for the prestigious Leadville (Colorado) 100. The Uphill Bike Race is another grueling event up, up and up the Memorial Highway to the summit - an 8 mile climb with a 2,300 foot elevation gain. Make sure you check out all the fun at the Bike Fest this coming weekend! There are stunt exhibitions, raffles, contests and much more!

Rock the face!
Beginning July 5, Whiteface Mountain’s Rock the Face series starts its new summer edition, featuring great regional talent and some new names on the music scene. The Cloudspin Lounge will be open from 3 - 9 pm Thursday through Saturday with food, drinks, and live music every Saturday at 4 pm from July 5 to the end of August. Some of the featured entertainment for July includes:
- July 5: Raisinhead
- July 12: Yo Lost Dog
- July 19: Annie in the Water
rock out at wilmington beach!
Wilmington’s summer concert series lineup is just out so make plans to join in as different bands entertain in the Lake Everest Town Beach pavilion every Thursday evening from early July to late August. Bring a picnic, chairs and your dancing shoes! The July lineup:
- July 3: Flipside (Country Rock)
- July 10: Stoneground Express (Rhythm & Blues)
- July 17: Movin' On (Country Rock)
Jay rocks, too!
In nearby Jay, the JEMS free concerts on the Green will keep things hopping on the weekends! Every Saturday evening from July 5th through August 23rd a new band will entertain outside on the Village Green (rain location- Amos and Julia Ward Theater next door to the Green). Bring a picnic, blanket or lawn chairs. Refreshments served at intermission. Shows begin each week at 6:30 pm. The early July lineup is:

big cats in the mountains?
I’m not going to miss one of the most interesting lectures of the summer season at the Whiteface Atmospheric and Science Research Station on Whiteface Mountain. The Falconer Science Lecture Series will feature Big Cats of the Adirondacks on July 22, with a visual presentation by Senior DEC Wildlife Biologist Paul Jensen. Canada Lynx and Bobcat are occasionally spotted in the Adirondacks if you’re lucky enough to be in the right place at the right time to catch a glimpse. They are shy creatures and any siting is a true treasure! Mountain Lions have also been reported although there is no scientific proof at this time there is a breeding population in the Adirondacks. Jensen’s lecture will present the current and historical facts about these species in what should be a very interesting visual presentation.
Spend a night or two and do some hiking, fishing and visiting Whiteface Mountain, then take in a concert later in the day. Check out our lodging pages for some great overnight options.
