The Adirondack Mountain Club (ADK) is celebrating National Trails Day with trail stewardship projects throughout the Adirondacks on Saturday, June 1, 2013. Among several projects in the Adirondacks, volunteers will meet at the Beaver Brook Trail System in the Wilmington Wild Forest on Hardy Rd. from 9 am to 4 pm. To register and receive more information, please call the Adirondack Mountain Club at 518-523-3441

The project at the Beaver Brook Trail System will consist of creating new trail tread, bench cutting, and grading the final section of trail planned in the system. The work is being done in collaboration with the Barkeater Trails Alliance, a local organization dedicated to the maintenance and construction of multi-use trails suitable for mountain biking.

National Trails Day is an event created by the American Hiking Society and is the largest celebration of our nation's extensive trail system. On the first Saturday in June each year events are held across the country to promote this treasured resource. The Adirondack Mountain Club has been promoting a National Trails Day event since its inception, and this year participation is expected to reach 100 members. Following the completion of the projects forthe day participants are invited to the Adirondack Lodge for a barbecue, live music, and raffle at the Adiorndack Loj.

Matt Macnamera Chair of the Barkeater Trails Alliance will be leading the work day on June 1st

The construction and maintenance of multi-use trails in the whiteface region is important to visitors and locals alike. Please do not hesitate to call The Adirondack Mountain Club and register for the trail day on June 1st or simply show up at Hardy Rd. ready to get your hands dirty.
