About

High Falls Gorge is especially spectacular in the winter months. Come for a nature walk, and gasp at the spectacular ice formations on 700 feet of frozen waterfalls. Afterward, roast marshmallows over a warm campfire and enjoy complimentary hot beverages. It is a truly unforgettable part of the Adirondack experience.

How to get there

High Falls Gorge is 1 mile west of Whiteface Mountain Ski Center, and 5 miles southwest of Wilmington. Parking, gift shop, and cafe are located on the north side of Route 86.

By the numbers

Snowshoeing

The 1-mile long Nature Trail turns into a snowshoe path in the winter. You pass by steep cliffs, footbridges, and boulders along the way. Mountain Safety Research Snowshoes (MSR) are available for rent and may be taken off premise for a daily rate.

The 0.5 mile Waterfall Walk can be done using traction devices provided by High Falls Gorge. It brings you alongside and over the West Branch of the Ausable River on incredibly scenic footbridges and balconies.
