Lake Placid 2023 FISU World University Games

From January 12-22, 2023, the Lake Placid 2023 FISU World University Games took place throughout the Adirondacks and were full of excitement and inspiring sportsmanship! The largest gathering of college athletes on the planet, athletes from 50 nations competed in a range of world-class sporting events. Famed for hosting Alpine events in the 1980 Olympic Winter Games, Whiteface Mountain hosted all of the thrilling Alpine skiing events held during the World University Games.

With the greatest vertical drop in the of any lift-serviced mountain in the Northeast, mile after mile of groomed cruisers, renowned backcountry, and host to the 1980 Olympic Games, Whiteface Mountain proved why it continues to be a challenging, renowned mountain.

Event highlights:

  • Medals were handed out in 9 events, with athletes from 10 countries medaling
  • American Jacob Dilling won a bronze medal in the Men's Slalom
  • In addition to traditional events such as Slalom and Giant Slalom, the new Mixed Team Parallel event was a huge hit!
