The mountains are the main attraction for the Sentinel Range Wilderness Area, a collection of 23,000 acres with a good portion sitting in the town of Wilmington. The highest point is Kilburn Mountain at 3,893 feet – just below the 4,000-foot threshold for a “high peak,” but still a challenge nonetheless. En route to the peak, if that’s your final destination, you’ll find habitat for a number of wildlife species.
Access in Wilmington is via a foot trail around Copperas Pond. After you’re off the trail, make sure you have a good map and compass.
