Greetings from the Great Camps — History of the Adirondack Vacation
The Wilmington Historical Society invites the community to their program entitled “Greetings from the Great Camps — History of the Adirondack Vacation” with historian Connor Williams to be held on Thursday, July 16 at 7:00 p.m. in the Logger Room at the Hungry Trout Restaurant, located at 5239 NYS Route 86, Wilmington.
Step back in time to an era of lavish retreats and untamed wilderness to discover the Great Camps of the Adirondacks. As an exploration of the Adirondack vacation, discover the forces and people that created the unique nexus of wilderness, exertion, and rejuvenation that defines the region today. The program is free and open to the public.
As a scholar, teacher, and historian, Connor Williams, says, “I share the stories of our past to help shape the societies of our future.” Currently, as Great Camp Sagamore’s Historian, he stewards Sagamore’s legacy. Prior to earning his PhD at Yale, Williams earned an M.A. at Dartmouth College. He has been a teacher, lecturer, consultant and writer. In 2021 and 2022, he was the Lead Historian for the United States Congress Naming Commission.
The “Greetings from the Great Camps — History of the Adirondack Vacation” program, free and open to the public, is made possible, in part, by the Essex County Arts Council's Cultural Assistance Program Grant with funding provided by Essex County.
