A performance of “Abigail Adams”
The Wilmington Historical Society invites the community to their program entitled “Abigail Adams”, on Wednesday, July 1 at 7:00 p.m. at the Rondeau Room at the Twisted Raven Restaurant, located at 8 Whiteface Memorial Highway, Wilmington.
An original interpretation by Colleen Twomey-Mulvey, with introduction by Tara Twomey-Mulvey, the performance is heavily sourced from the biography Dear Abigail by Diane Jacobs. On March 31, 1776, Abigail Adams, wife of 2nd US President John Adams, wrote a letter to her husband while he was attending the Second Continental Congress in Philadelphia. In the letter, she urged him to “Remember the Ladies” in the new code of laws. The letter is considered a crucial early document in American women’s advocacy. The program is free and open to the public.
From Wilmington, New York, Colleen Twomey-Mulvey has a Bachelor’s degree in History from SUNY Potsdam and a Masters in English and Creative Writing from Southern New Hampshire University. Colleen says, “I have performed in way too many shows to count.”
Colleen’s prominent works include developing the “Abigail Adams” program, filming a short movie with Players Conservatory School, and performing as Eliza Doolittle while directing Pygmalion with Mountain to Mountain Community Theatre with her mother. Together, they plan to create adult performances and develop similar programs about other notable women—including female authors—to pitch to schools and historical societies.
The “Abigail Adams” program on July 1, free and open to the public, is made possible, in part, by the Essex County Arts Council's Cultural Assistance Program Grant with funding provided by Essex County. Attendees are welcome to arrive early or stay late to support our local restaurant (light fare & bar).
