About

Enjoy this special Town of Jay & JEMS collaboration, adding to the Summer Concert Series!

Come and enjoy the Piotr Barcz Trio inside, at the Amos and Julia Ward Theater (15 Parkside Road, Jay) on Saturday, September 13 at 7:00 p.m.

The trio will be playing a variety of swing, jazz, ragtime, and stride with Piotr on piano Chris Stokes on bass, and Russ Bailey on drums. Originally from Poland, Piotr has traveled between and lived in both the USA and Europe all of his life. He initially played blues and ragtime guitar, then drums, but over time, piano has become his greatest love and main instrument.

His repertoire comes almost exclusively from the first half of the 20th century, and includes swing, jazz, ragtime, and stride. He draws inspiration from Scott Joplin, Teddy, Wilson, Willie “the lion“ Smith and many other great players—however he arranges his own interpretations of standard tunes and also composes often spontaneously. His style and arrangements are very unique as he is entirely self taught, and plays only by ear, which has allowed him to become an exciting improviser. His concerts often include highly entertaining and informative stories that flow between the tunes, as he possesses a vast knowledge of the music, composers, and pieces he plays.

Join us for an extraordinary evening!
