The Maids by Jean Genet at the Upper Jay Art Center

About the Event

Join the Upper Jay Art Center for their Fall theatre production of The Maids by Jean Genet. Claire and Solange are sisters and servants. Trapped in a life they didn't ask for and can't leave, they pass the time by impersonating their Madame. We watch as the two sisters begin to blur the lines between fantasy and reality as they roleplay their liberation. The Maids is a compelling, timely parable of class, identity, and the destructive desire to both emulate and annihilate those we idolize.

Written by Jean Genet

Performed by Katherine Norman, Jess Kemp, and Elyse Sinklier

Directed by Gabrielle Schutz
