Gravestone Restoration & Repair Classes
The Wilmington Historical Society will host a two-day gravestone restoration and repair workshop series this June at Pleasant View Cemetery, 1018 Bonnieview Road. The community workshop series on June 5–6 offers hands-on training in historic gravestone cleaning, repair, and restoration and is open to all skill levels The event is designed to equip community members with the practical skills needed to preserve historic burial grounds — and to inspire a new generation of stewards for the region’s heritage.
Guy Stephenson, a Wilmington Historical Society member and former Trustee, spoke to the deeper purpose of the event. “We hope to honor our ancestors and preserve their history by teaching others who hopefully care on with this important work,” he said.
Class 1: Gravestone Cleaning Class
When: Friday, June 5, 9 am - 12 pm
Where: Pleasant View Cemetery, 1018 Bonnieview Road, Wilmington.
Join Cemetery Revival and the Wilmington Historical Society for a hands-on class.
Participants will learn gentle, historically appropriate methods for safely cleaning aged stones without damaging delicate lettering or carved detail. Registration: $20
Class 2: Cemetery Stone Repair and Restore Class
When: Saturday, June 6, 8 am - 4 pm
Where: Pleasant View Cemetery, 1018 Bonnieview Road, Wilmington.
Join Gravestone Guardians, Cemetery Revival, and the Wilmington Historical Society for a hands-on class where you’ll practice techniques in safely repairing and resetting gravestones. Lunch catered by Little Supermarket will be provided. Rain date is Sunday, June 7. Registration: $50

These Gravestone Restoration & Repair Classes are dedicated to the memory of Patrick F. McIntyre, Wilmington resident and one of our longtime Wilmington Historical Society members, who always supported Wilmington cemetery care and restoration.
