Music & Poetry at the Upper Jay Art Center

Join us for an evening of music + poetry, featuring a split bill of Chris Kowanko with Roger Mitchell, and guest artists Matthew Battles with Michael James. Two unique collaborations, each exploring the intersection of music and poetry in their own way.

Chris Kowanko (musician) and Roger Mitchell (poet) have been blending their unique skills throughout the past few years to create original performances, setting Mitchell's poetry to Kowanko's original compositions. This event will also celebrate the release of their new CD album, The Bat. 

Guest musicians Matthew Battles and Michael James explore the musicality of Shakespeare’s sonnets, carrying them through the sonic landscape of American string music to find songs that feel both ancient and modern.
