The oldest natural attraction in the United States (est. 1870), the sights of the chasm are breathtaking. The chasm is formed of sandstone that is 500 million years old from a time geologists call the Cambrian period.
Hike the 5+ miles of scenic trails, float the mighty Ausable River with your family on a tube or with a guide on a raft, climb the sandstone walls and conquer the Chasm- there is all of this and more at the historic Ausable Chasm. Visitors can enjoy walking along the towering cliffs and through a primeval forest, peering into the gorge and floating the legendary waters of the Ausable River. Be sure to take in the famous sights of Rainbow Falls, Elephants Head, and the Grand Flume while making your way to one of our many activities. Float tours via raft or tube, nighttime lantern tours, and our adventure activities (via ferrata Adventure Trail, rappelling, or rock climbing) are available all summer long (weather and river dependent) as well as during the spring and summer with some limitations. During the winter we offer a variety of winter tour options. There is a campground on site with cabins, RV hookups and tent sites.
Before you venture out to the local crags of the Adirondacks, come climbing at Ausable Chasm where we provide all the gear, a safe and controlled environment, and quality climbing with our experienced guides.
