It may be hard to ackowledge that winter is almost here, especially if you're still raking leaves. But the best deals can be found now, before we’re knee-deep in the fluffy stuff. And Whiteface Mountain is no exception; they are offering up various deals with substantial savings.

If you haven’t skied it yet, let me give you a couple of reasons to visit: Whiteface Mountain is ranked the #1 resort in the East for off-hill activities by readers of Ski Magazine for 27 years in a row: it's a big mountain with an even bigger view, it boasts the greatest vertical drop east of the Rockies, 60 percent of the terrain is geared toward beginner and intermediate skiers, and it has a special learning area designed exclusively for kids and beginners.

But with various promotions to choose from, it may be confusing to decide which will give you the most savings, so we've evaluated them and sorted out which ones are best, depending on your skiing habits. We’ve done the math for you.

Can you plan your specific dates?

If you know when you want to ski, you can save up to 50 percent off lift tickets with Whiteface's early bird lift ticket blitz. Skiing for more days and choosing to ski midweek will get you the deepest discounts. The prices will fluctuate with supply and demand, akin to airline pricing, so purchase as early as possible.

Do you want flexibility and no blackout dates?

The snow sampler four-pack includes four transferable lifts tickets for $259, valid any day of this upcoming season. Adults save $29 off a ticket purchased at the window.

Any person can use the tickets, meaning you could go in with friends or family for this deal. It is only available until December 8.

Will you ski at least five days, but not sure when?

Frequent skier cards are a worthwhile purchase if you fall into this category. Listed below are the prices for the cards the mountain offers:

Empire Card (ages 20 and up): $99

Student Card (ages 13-19 and full-time college students): $79

Snowball Card (ages 7-12): $59

What the card gets you:

  • First day skiing for free
  • 50 percent off window ticket rates midweek (Mon-Fri). non-holiday
  • 25 percent off window ticket rates on weekends and holidays
  • Every 6th day free

Other perks include their bring-a-friend promo, where your pal would get 50 percent off a lift ticket.

Are you an avid skier who will be on the slopes early and often?

The non-holiday season pass price of $649 has been extended until November 17. After that date, it goes up by $100.

The math: If you ski seven days or more, you’ll spend less than if you purchased at the window. For example, if you ski 10 days, you pay $65 per day. If you ski 15 days, you end up paying $43 per day.

Ski free, stay free
