Spring in the Whiteface Region means spring skiing at Whiteface Mountain and the opening of fishing season for the Ausable River and beyond. Knobby tire bikes are dusted off in anticipation of the mountain biking season as well.
Spring skiing events abound at Whiteface - from kids events to Pond Skimming, entertainment at the base lodge and a huge St. Patrick's Day celebration. The heavy jackets come off, the sunblock comes out and the deck parties begin. Don't miss the myriad of events celebrating the soft snow and heightened spirits Spring brings with it each year.
In early April, don't miss the quintessential Pond Skimming competition at Whiteface Mountain. Skiers and riders don shorts, bathing suits and all kinds of costumes and join in a quest to skim the farthest across a huge manmade pond at the bottom of the mountain on skis and boards. Riotous fun ensues and it's not to be missed.
In May the legendary two day Ausable River Two-Fly competition takes place, pitting fishers against one another using just two flies of their choice. It's even fun just to watch from the banks of the mighty Ausable.
If you're searching for arts and cultural offerings, the Jay Entertainment and Music Society (JEMS) features a number of local artists scattered throughout the region – attend an exhibition premier or simply take in the work of member artists at a local gallery to experience the Adirondack vantage point.
