Ride for the River

WILMINGTON, NY – The Ausable River Association (AsRA) announces its third annual Ride for the River bike ride and invites residents and visitors to join in on Sunday, August 3rd.

The Ride for the River was launched in 2012 to encourage visitors to return to the Whiteface Region's Ausable Valley after Tropical Storm Irene.  The goal of the Ride was to support local communities and businesses impacted by the flooding during Irene and support the work the Ausable River Association was doing to build resilience in both the natural and human communities in the Ausable Valley.  The Ride was a huge success and continues to be a way to celebrate the cultural and natural resources within the Ausable Valley.

This year’s Ride will be based out of Wilmington, NY and will feature three bike routes designed by LeepOff cycles.  This is a family and community oriented event that everyone can participate in, with route options offering something for everyone.  Not a cyclist? No problem, all are invited to join in for a picnic, live music, and raffle after the Ride.  This year we are raffling a Hornbeck canoe and guided fly-fishing trip from Hungry Trout Fly Fishing.  Tickets can be purchased in advance at the Hungry Trout Fly Shop in Wilmington, NY.

The mission of the Ausable River Association (AsRA) is to identify, conserve, and restore the Ausable River watershed’s natural and recreational resources for their ecological value and for the benefit of human communities. Since 1998, AsRA has been working cooperatively with landowners, municipalities, and government agencies to conserve the valued resources of the Ausable watershed. We provide scientific expertise, engage stakeholders in responsible watershed stewardship, and foster collaboration and information sharing among organizations, universities, government agencies, local businesses, and individuals who care about the Ausable River. AsRA identifies and implements balanced conservation solutions that emphasize the importance of a healthy Ausable River for sustainable and resilient watershed communities.
