WILMINGTON, N.Y. - The Whiteface Region is known for its namesake alpine Adirondack High Peak, but there are great winter activities to enjoy off-hill, "where the mountain meets the river".

Cross Country ski and snowshoeMany of the trails that welcome mountain bikes and hikers in warm months are ideal for family-friendly cross country ski and snowshoe outings. Here are a few winter gems to try!

The Beaver Brook Trail System totals 3.6 miles of trails that range from easy to moderate in difficulty.
Those up for an easy winter walk in the woods with great views can stroll 3.5 miles to Owen, Copperas and Winch ponds.

And, not to be missed, the Wilmington Wild Forest Flume Trails offer over ten miles of trails through a beautiful forested landscape.

When it's not iced over, the West Branch of the Ausable River is a world-renowned fly fishing water.  But for a unique look at the river at work in winter, strap on some snowshoes and take a self-guided tour at High Falls Gorge for a spectacular view of four waterfalls.
