2016 Wilmington Whiteface Bike Fest slated for June 3 - 5

WILMINGTON, N.Y. - With a mix of uphill, downhill, serious competition and family fun, the 7th Annual Wilmington Whiteface Bike Fest is set for June 3 - 5. The weekend begins on Friday, when spectators will enjoy incredible stunts, jumps and tricks at the Jump Jam and Trials exhibition at the Wilmington Bike Park, followed by the “Official” welcome party, featuring music, raffles, prizes and the famous “Best Calves” contest.

Saturday, June 4th features the 15th Annual Whiteface Mountain Uphill Bike Race beginning at 8:00 a.m. The race is part of the BUMPS (Bike Up the Mountain Point) series that comprises ten races on mountains of the Northeast, on courses of varying lengths and pitches.

The day also includes a vendor expo, music, food, children’s activities and demo bikes, as well as free group rides and “Poor Man’s downhill.” All are welcome as the day rounds up with a Bike Fest Beach Party with Live Music and Food.

Sunday’s action features the 6th Annual Wilmington/Whiteface 100k Mountain Bike Race, which takes place with a shotgun start at 7:00 a.m. The 100k race is a qualifier for the Leadville Trail 100 mountain bike race.

For mountain bikers who like high elevation racing on the most rugged of terrain, the Leadville Trail 100 is the holy grail. As one of the most well-known mountain bike races, getting into the Leadville Trail 100 has always been difficult. One way to get in is by racing in one of the six LT100 Qualifiers across the country, each offering 100 total qualifying starting positions.

From start to finish, the WW100's course is as varied as the cyclists competing from the eastern United States and Canada. The race both begins and ends at Whiteface Mountain, but in between, the 69-mile long race will take competitors up and down and twisting through jeep and gravel roads, backcountry trails and climbs that measure more than 750 meters each.

Cyclists who may not be ready for the full WW100 can also compete in the 50K event, or the TEAM class which will consist of two-member teams each riding the 50K course.
